«It Was Fate»: Wagner Sniper Rescues Driver
The name of the hero who saved a driver from a burning car in Nizhny Tagil has become known. The accident occurred on Vostochnoye Highway in the afternoon of February 4. The driver of a Mazda Familia was thrown into the oncoming lane, collided with another car, and then the Lada Priora was thrown onto the roadside into a snowdrift.
The car caught fire, and the driver inside was unconscious. He was saved by a witness to the accident — 36-year-old Evgeny Antonov. He himself does not consider himself a hero.
«This is my civic duty, I guess, I don«t feel like a hero, — Evgeny explained to E1.RU. — My wife and I were already returning home. A car from the opposite lane was thrown into our lane. They collided with an oncoming car, and the car was thrown into a snowdrift. The accident happened about ten meters from us. The car caught fire instantly. I acted on a subconscious level: I tried to open the doors, they were blocked by snow, I had to bend the hinges. While I was unfastening the driver»s seat belt, the cabin was burning — the rear seats were on fire.»
Evgeny checked that besides the driver, there was no one else in the cabin, and pulled the victim out through the passenger seat.
«He was unconscious, I brought him to, diagnosed a scalped wound — quite extensive. Part of the scalp was torn off, apparently. I got out the first-aid kit, a woman ran up with water. I washed his wound to see where to apply the bandage. And then, as they say, my hands remembered. I stopped the bleeding and watched over him until the ambulance arrived,» — Evgeny explained.
The rescuer handed the victim over to paramedics, and he was taken to the hospital. While Evgeny was providing assistance, other drivers who witnessed the accident quickly put out the car using shovels with snow and fire extinguishers.
Evgeny himself, fortunately, did not sustain any injuries. The driver of the second car involved in the accident got off with a bruised knee.
«It was fate, that«s the only explanation. Because my wife and I happened to go that route — she asked to stop at a store, I said it was closed, but we still decided to stop. The store turned out to be closed, and we were already heading home. Along the way, I managed to get through two traffic lights on a flashing green.
We were driving along. She said to me: «Let»s stop at that store.« I say: »No need, it«s already closed.» She: «Let»s stop.« Uh-huh. And so we stopped, it was closed, and we drove on, as it were. Everything was leading to the fact that I was meant to be there,» — Evgeny believes.
The phrase «hands remember» was not said by Evgeny for nothing — he is a fighter of the Wagner PMC assault group and took an extensive course in first aid for victims. Two years ago, a squad commander and senior sniper returned from the special military operation. In civilian life, he began teaching basic military training to children in two schools. Evgeny is a husband and father of two sons. He added that he plans to return to the front in the near future, signing a contract with the Ministry of Defense.
