Injured Zabaykalsky ombudsman on treatment: 'What will be, will be'

Nikolai Khlyzov, the human rights commissioner of Zabaykalsky Krai who was injured in a fatal car accident, said on January 21 to a Chita.Ru correspondent that he does not yet know how everything will proceed.

«Everything is in process. They don«t say anything in advance. What will be, will be. Everything in its own time,» said Khlyzov.

Earlier that same day, Minister of Health of Zabaykalsky Krai Oksana Nemakina said that Nikolai Khlyzov is doing fine, his condition is satisfactory, he is receiving all necessary treatment and is awaiting another operation.

Almost a month has passed since the accident — it occurred on December 24 on the regional road Darasun – Solntsevo in the Karymsky District. Nikolai Khlyzov was taken to the Zabaykalsky Krai Clinical Hospital in serious condition, he was placed in intensive care. Khlyzov«s driver died in the ambulance despite medics» attempts to resuscitate him. Colleagues of the ombudsman said that he went on a business trip to the Karymsky District, but they do not know the details of the incident.

The UMVD (Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs) opened a criminal case regarding the accident. The State Traffic Inspectorate (GAI) and police did not report what car Khlyzov«s vehicle collided with, whether anyone in the second car was injured, or if the car veered into a ditch after the accident. Also, the UMVD did not answer who, preliminarily, is at fault for the crash.

On December 27, it became known that Nikolai Khlyzov was transferred from intensive care to the neurosurgery department, and he was improving. Later, the head of the regional Ministry of Health, Oksana Nemakina, reported that the ombudsman is in the traumatology department. He himself said that he cannot tell about the accident because he does not remember how it all happened.
