Hornet sting nearly kills man in Primorsky Krai

A 51-year-old man was admitted to the intensive care unit of the toxicology department of the Tysyachekoechnaya Hospital after a hornet sting. He was diagnosed with toxic effects, anaphylactic shock, and angioedema, the hospital«s press service reported.

The incident occurred last weekend while the man was at his dacha (country house). He felt the sting and initially endured the pain, but then his face and throat swelled, and he began to choke. The man started losing consciousness.

When the ambulance arrived, the patient«s blood pressure had dropped to 80/50, his larynx was swollen, and he could not breathe. After his condition stabilized, the man was hospitalized. According to Kirill Korostylev, the chief freelance toxicologist of Primorsky Krai, «this is a classic example of an allergic reaction, but if mild pain, redness, and itching are common symptoms, then shortness of breath and a feeling of a lump in the throat in such situations indicate that you need to call an ambulance immediately.»

The patient«s life is no longer in danger. He is continuing treatment in the toxicology department.

The Ministry of Health clarified that if you need help but are outside the city, for example, at a dacha, you should do the following:

dial 103;

calmly state the reason for the call, address, contact phone number, and the patient«s personal details;

confirm the call again.

This is not the first such incident in Primorye. In August 2025, we reported that a worker of Russian Railways complained of deteriorating health and later died at a medical station. He had been stung by a bee or wasp before.
