Heavy rain floods police detention center in Kamensk-Uralsky

In Kamensk-Uralsky, after heavy rainfall on 18 July, a temporary detention center at the local police station was flooded. Streets turned into rivers, with residents moving around on paddleboards. Water also flooded the perinatal center, leading to a criminal case for negligence. Due to the weather, the concert program for the city’s 325th anniversary, including a performance by singer Burito, was postponed to Sunday, and the festive fireworks were canceled.

According to Valery Gorelykh, head of the press service of the Sverdlovsk Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (GU MVD), water began seeping into the basement of the service building where 11 detainees were held. They were all temporarily moved to other premises. Documentation was not damaged, and the head of the police department, Lieutenant Colonel Ivan Karkavin, personally took control of the situation. «Indeed, over the past weekend, 18 July, when Kamensk-Uralsky was celebrating its 325th anniversary, there was heavy rain in the city, as in many other municipalities of the region. Due to prolonged bad weather and heavy precipitation, the concert program, including the performance of singer Burito, had to be postponed to Sunday. The festive fireworks were also canceled due to the downpour. When water began seeping into the basement of the service building where 11 detainees were held, they were all temporarily transferred to other special premises in accordance with procedure. Documentation was not damaged. The situation was immediately taken under personal control by the head of the police department, Lieutenant Colonel Ivan Karkavin. The elements do not choose who to spoil the mood; everyone is equal before them: people, services, and agencies,» noted Colonel Valery Gorelykh.

Residents of Kamensk-Uralsky are experiencing the aftermath: courtyards turned into ponds, cars submerged, and people have switched to rubber boats.
