Water problems in Gukovo are frequent. The last major accident occurred on 16 January, when water was cut off due to a burst pipe on the Gukovo-Gundorovsky water main. Supply gradually resumed from 27 January. The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation opened criminal cases over the water situation in mining towns. President Vladimir Putin learned of the problem in Gukovo and instructed the Minister of Construction, Housing and Utilities of Russia, Irek Faizullin, to report on the situation.

A report on how residents of Gukovo live, many of whom are forced to constantly stockpile water and cannot always use washing machines or bathe due to water supply problems, was published in this report.
