A court in Kumertau sentenced a 58-year-old resident of Orenburg to two years in a penal colony for causing a fatal accident on the R-240 highway. This was reported by the Prosecutor«s Office of Bashkortostan.

The tragedy, as a reminder, occurred in the Kuyurgazinsky District of the republic in November 2025. The defendant, driving a company Freightliner fuel tanker, pulled into the oncoming lane to overtake a vehicle ahead, but failed to complete the maneuver — as a result, a Toyota RAV4 crashed head-on into him.

The accident claimed the life of a passenger in the foreign-made car. UTV, citing a witness to the incident, reported that the deceased «had his leg torn off,» and before that he was ejected from the car by the force of the impact. The driver of the Toyota was also hospitalized. The oversight agency did not specify the nature of his injuries, but stated that «serious harm was caused to his health.»

The fuel tanker driver pleaded guilty. In addition to imprisonment, his driver«s license was also revoked for two years.
