In Volgograd Oblast, police are investigating a fatal accident that occurred early on February 4 on the Moscow–Volgograd highway. A passenger car collided with a tractor-trailer carrying a gas tanker.

«According to preliminary information, at 04:00 on the 881st kilometer of the federal highway R-22 »Caspian«, the driver lost control of a Mitsubishi, drove into the oncoming lane and collided with a FAW truck traveling in the opposite direction. As a result of the accident, the driver of the car died at the scene from his injuries before the ambulance arrived,» the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for Volgograd Oblast reported.

The aftermath of the accident is clearly visible in photos from the scene. The car was virtually destroyed on impact. The damage was so severe that the model of the Mitsubishi could not be identified. The truck with a semi-trailer for transporting non-hazardous gases also left the road and came to a stop in a ditch in deep snow. The exact cause of the accident will be determined during the investigation of a criminal case.

Recall that several years ago, on the same stretch of road near the Avilov khutor (hamlet), a Hyundai minibus was involved in an accident. The driver died, and two passengers were taken to hospital with various injuries. It later emerged that the accident was caused by the driver«s sudden death at the wheel due to heart problems.
