Artemy Koryukov, an 18-year-old from Arkhangelsk, attacked with a knife his former teachers. He had rehearsed his revenge in a computer game. The young man had been expelled from the second year of the Arkhangelsk College of Construction and Economics. It is not excluded that other students bullied him. At the same time, Artemy regularly took part in aeromodelling sports competitions, winning prizes.

A video segment compiles the key details available about the attack and response.

Neutralized by fellow students

On the morning of 29 September, Artemy Koryukov came to the college where he had previously studied with a backpack and his old student ID. He was let in without any trouble.

He then put on a mask with a skull image and fingerless leather gloves. After that he burst into a classroom with a knife in his hands and went on a stabbing spree.

Prosecutors oversee the investigation and assess the adequacy of campus security measures.

As a 29.RU source said, first Artemy attacked his former homeroom teacher — Olga Ivanova; she sustained stab wounds from behind in the neck area. He then ran out of the classroom and struck social pedagogue Tatyana Vinokurova in the chest.

The women are 62 and 52 years old. They underwent surgery.

When Artemy left the building, students neutralized him on the college grounds. Ordinary guys held him until the police arrived.

«We just saw some man with a knife run out, and we ran after him,» college student Vitaly Gandyuk told reporters. «He stopped by the gate, started threatening us, and ran at us. I threw a trash bin at him first, he kept running, and then by the 26th GOPy he tossed the knife, and I hit him,» the student explained.

Students led Artemy here, pinned him on the ground, then handed him to police.

The 29.RU newsroom also spoke with Vitaly’s classmate, who helped detain Koryukov. Artem Korepanov said he encountered the attacker while heading with classmates to a homeroom period:

«We walk out of the classroom and see this Artemy. He had on a mask with a jawbone design and fingerless leather gloves. We just walked past and laughed: “What an outfit.” Out of the corner of my eye I saw him go into the Russian-language classroom. Farther down the corridor, as we entered the hall where our security and cloakroom are, we heard a woman scream.»

According to the student, he also saw the attacker running down the corridor and one of the teachers tried to stop him. Koryukov struck her:

«He shoves her with his shoulder, after which she hits the wall and inertia turns her back toward him. She keeps blocking the corridor, and then Artemy delivers a blow to the heart area, just above the chest. Tatyana Stepanovna is stunned, leaning against the wall.»

After that the attacker tried to run out of the college, but the door was locked from the inside. He hesitated, and the guys chasing him caught up with him:

«As a result, he was effectively between us and the locked door, but then something went wrong and my classmate Vitalik… We look — and the guy with the knife figured out how to unlock the latch, opened it, and ran. The first-years next to him hesitated, but Vitalik and I didn’t, and we chased him outside. When he stopped by the gate to catch his breath, I just managed to reach him.»

Artem managed not to cut himself on the knife. When Koryukov ended up unarmed, his companions pinned him down.

«Someone from the crowd that came running after us started hitting him… Who — I didn’t see. We, with Vitalik and the crowd of first-years, took him and led him back into the college. Shortly after, a district police officer arrived with a juvenile affairs inspector from the Division for Juvenile Affairs (PDN), and Artemy was led away. Before that, they asked him whether he objected to being handcuffed.»

The student wrote an explanatory statement, as he was the only adult among all those who held Artemy Koryukov. He also gave testimony to the Investigative Committee.

«While I was there, the “heroes” started appearing — the ones who neutralized him with four blows, and so on… All sorts of embellishments started,» Artem added.

Our interlocutor clarified that there was no panic.

«There was uncertainty. What’s happening? Not everyone understood. Including the teachers — they learned from us what had happened. It wasn’t frightening either.»

«We have a very good relationship with her, and Tatyana Stepanovna herself is a very good and kind person. I’m really worried about her now, as I am about Olga Nikolaevna — whether everything is okay with them…”

About security before and after the incident

After the attack, students were not allowed out of classrooms for a time — law enforcement was working in the building, and the college doors were closed. Some of the kids managed to lean out of open windows to see what was happening outside.

Reporters tested access rules at several colleges across the city following the attack.

Entry procedures were adjusted, requiring student IDs and names to be checked at the door.

Then entry to the college was organized as follows: students rang the doorbell; staff opened the door and asked them to show their student ID, and some were asked their names. After this “check,” they were let in.

Some institutions allowed unrestricted entry, while others maintained closed access with security present.

Student Daniil, whom we met on the street, believes that before the incident absolutely anyone could get inside the building.

«The kid still had his old student ID, he used it to get in, and that’s it. Seems to me even if someone showed a stranger’s student ID upside down, they would’ve been let in.»

As we checked a little later, there are also problems with access control at other educational institutions in the city.

On that day after the incident, our journalists had no trouble entering the main building of Northern (Arctic) Federal University (Severny Arktichesky Federalny Universitet, NArFU), the pedagogical college, and the management college. But they could not get into Northern State Medical University (NSMU), the Polytechnic College, the College of Construction and Economics on Chumbarovka (Chumbarova-Luchinskogo Prospekt), or the music college.

What is known about the attacker

Artemy Koryukov studied at School No. 60 and was a member of the Vzlyot (Takeoff) sports and technical club; he took part in aeromodelling competitions, winning prizes.

Artemy has a two-parent family — father and mother. His parents are also keen on aeromodelling sport.

From his father’s VKontakte page it is clear that he knows the field well, trains young people, and prepares them for competitions at various levels. This explains the son’s success — Artemy is also a regular participant in such events. There are many portraits of him with awards online.

On the father’s page there is a lot of information about rocket modelling, Cosmonautics Day, and Victory in the Great Patriotic War (World War II). The profile looks patriotic and tells of his life’s work — many images of trainees at various festivals and competitions.

According to TASS, acting Arkhangelsk Region education minister Yevgeny Melekhin said the family was well-off, but the young man was under «special monitoring».

«He was on a register — I can’t say which. He was withdrawn, calm, but he was on our register, under special monitoring. Not only with us. All the relevant agencies were informed.»

About possible bullying

Artemy was expelled from the college while in his second year. One version of why he resorted to violence is revenge for the expulsion.

It is not ruled out that the former student may have been the victim of prolonged bullying. Possibly for that reason he decided to seek revenge.

The Telegram channel Mash writes that classmates pressured the young man because of a teacher, as his sister allegedly reported.

According to her, Koryukov reported a group that was smoking in the restroom, and teachers disclosed to the students who had done it.

This version is also supported by Baza, which managed to speak with Artemy’s mother. She told the outlet that her son had a serious conflict at the college with other students, so he did not like going there. The boy, she said, was secretive and had no friends.

Relations with peers were difficult. However, after his expulsion, Artemy apologized to his classmates for all the quarrels and even wrote that they might meet again.

Russophobic chats and shooting students in Minecraft

As reported by the Telegram channel SHOT, before the attack the young man posted a slogan of a radical terrorist movement on his page.

Mash reports that Artemy Koryukov was seen in Russophobic chats and Ukrainian channels. Also, according to the outlet, he told classmates in a group chat that he was too lazy to attend classes, and when they wrote about retakes and academic problems he joked with memes or sometimes wrote in Ukrainian.

Koryukov was also interested in weapons and the computer game Minecraft. According to Mash, he recorded these videos in 2024 — he recreated the college building and its interior rooms in the game, as well as staff and students, and then shot everyone.

Mash reported on alleged online activity and Minecraft videos attributed to the suspect.
