Drunk driver gets 5-year sentence for fatal crash

In Mozhga, a verdict was issued to a 21-year-old local resident who, while under the influence of alcohol, got behind the wheel of a car and became the culprit of a fatal accident. This was reported by the united press service of the courts of Udmurtia.

The tragedy occurred on the night of September 4, 2025, in the Alnashsky District of the republic. The 21-year-old man, driving his father«s Chevrolet Cruze and heading from Mozhga to Yelabuga, lost control and drove into oncoming traffic. As a result, a foreign car collided with a LADA Largus. The culprit of the accident survived, while the driver of the second car died at the scene.

During a medical examination, it was found that the young man got behind the wheel while intoxicated. The alcohol content in his exhaled breath was 0.606 mg/l.

A criminal case was initiated under paragraph «a» of part 4 of Article 264 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, «Violation of traffic rules by a person driving a vehicle, resulting in the negligent death of a person, committed by a person in a state of intoxication.»

The Mozhga resident fully admitted his guilt and voluntarily paid compensation for moral damage to the family of the deceased. The court sentenced him to 5 years of imprisonment to be served in a colony-settlement. In addition, the young man is prohibited from engaging in activities related to driving vehicles for a period of 2 years.
