Drones and Silence Aid Rescue at Collapsed Novosibirsk Mall

In Novosibirsk, EMERCOM (the Ministry of Emergency Situations) rescuers are clearing the rubble of a shopping center in the Pervomaisky district. More than a hundred people are working on site. The work is complicated by the building«s structure.
Rescue services released footage from the site of the ongoing operation.
«It is a prefabricated structure and covered with siding. It»s difficult to remove the roof itself. The thin metal does not yield to removal. And there is a considerable amount of snow,« an EMERCOM employee said.
While on the roof of the building, workers are clearing the area of snow and cutting metal elements with gas cutters, drones from the sky help coordinate the work. Two cranes were also brought to the site, which are removing the roof and dismantling the structure.
Periodically, rescuers announce a minute of silence to hear a person. One of the rescued women was lowered from the roof using a bucket.
