Driver Tears Off Door to Rescue Unconscious Man
A rescuer tore off a car door to pull an unconscious person from a burning car after an accident in Nizhny Tagil on February 4.

On February 4, an accident occurred in Nizhny Tagil (Sverdlovsk Oblast, Russia), after which one of the cars caught fire. The driver inside lost consciousness and could not leave the vehicle on his own.

The incident happened on Eastern Highway (Vostochnoye Shosse) at approximately 15:30. A married couple driving in the opposite direction witnessed the crash and immediately noticed that no one was getting out of the burning car.

«It all happened so quickly… We were driving towards each other and saw that after the collision, the car immediately caught fire. No one got out of the car. There was absolutely no movement, which greatly alarmed us, because we perfectly understood that at least the driver should have been inside,» the passenger recounted.
Her husband immediately rushed to help. However, he could not open the door — it was blocked by a snowdrift. «There was no time to wait for rescuers; every second counted, so we had to make a decision — to tear it off. At that moment, half of the cabin was already in flames and thick acrid smoke. There was nothing to breathe. The driver of the burning car was unconscious. Whether from the injury, or from carbon monoxide, or maybe both at once, one thing was clear: we had to get him out of the car as quickly as possible,» the eyewitness shared in the group «Incident Nizhny Tagil».
Despite the obstacles, the man managed to pull the victim out of the burning car. Fortunately, there were no other passengers inside. «We provided first aid to the injured driver as best we could until the professionals arrived. We handed him over conscious. We hope he recovers soon,» the woman added.
The traffic police of Nizhny Tagil clarified that two vehicles were involved in the accident. A Mazda Familia, whose driver lost control, veered into the oncoming lane and collided with a Lada Priora.
It is worth noting that earlier the Sverdlovsk State Traffic Inspectorate issued an emergency warning for motorists due to heavy snowfall, which could worsen road conditions.
