In Kumertau, a driver of a VAZ-2110 hit two children at a pedestrian crossing and fled. This was reported by Vladimir Sevastyanov, head of the Bashkortostan traffic police (GIBDD). He assured that the driver has already been detained.

According to traffic police, the accident occurred on Pushkin Street. The victims are two girls, aged two and six, who were taken to the hospital with multiple bruises.

«The driver, without slowing down, hit a mother with her two young daughters who were crossing the road at an unregulated pedestrian crossing. The impact struck the sled where one child was sitting, and then the child who was walking,» said Vladimir Sevastyanov.

The car«s bumper fell off during the crash, and later traffic police found the vehicle itself in a nearby yard. They then identified the owner and his location. He turned out to be a 23-year-old resident of Kumertau who showed signs of intoxication. He refused to undergo a medical examination.

«At first he denied his involvement in the accident, but then admitted guilt,» noted the traffic police.

A report was filed for refusing the medical examination under the relevant article of the Administrative Code. For leaving the scene of the accident, the driver was arrested for 14 days. An investigation is underway into the harm caused to the children and the severity of their injuries is being determined.
