Driver blocks ambulance carrying critical patient in Vladivostok

The incident that outraged residents of Primorye occurred in Vladivostok on January 19. A truck driver refused to yield to an ambulance that was transporting a patient in critical condition. The man«s actions were reported to the regional Ministry of Health, and the situation was addressed by the Investigative Committee and police.

It was revealed that an 18-year-old girl was skiing in Arsenyev and fell on one of the turns, resulting in a displaced fracture of the lumbar spine. Due to the complexity of the injury, she was transported to Vladivostok by air ambulance and transferred to a resuscitation vehicle at the Ozernye Klyuchi airfield.

The road conflict occurred on the approach to the Far Eastern capital. The ambulance was moving in the left lane, close to the barriers, with flashing lights and siren activated, but the truck ahead did not yield the road and at one point braked sharply, forcing the ambulance driver to brake as well.

Due to the sudden stop, the injured girl experienced dynamic overloads and severe pain, and the ambulance was forced to stop so that doctor Alexey Sidunov and paramedic Vasily Litvishko could provide assistance to the patient. Only after that was she taken to the hospital.

In the regional police department, it was found that the truck was driven by a 39-year-old local resident with 22 years of driving experience. A report was filed against him, and he now faces a fine of 3,000 to 5,000 rubles (approximately $30 to $50 at current rates) or revocation of his driver«s license for up to a year.

Also, the Investigative Committee of Primorye has initiated a pre-investigation check into the obstruction of medical assistance (Part 1 of Article 124.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). If the driver«s guilt is proven, the maximum punishment he faces is imprisonment for up to 2 years.
