The incident occurred on February 4 at the Nizhny Novgorod aeration station. According to the United Municipal Operator (OKO), the settling tank dome collapsed during commissioning work.
The cover of the equalization-regulator tank located on the primary settling tank was damaged. The contractor Roskapstroy is conducting an inspection of the damaged structures and preparing for repairs.
«The station is operating normally, and commissioning work continues on schedule,» OKO stated.
Reconstruction of the station began in 2022. The first phase, with a preliminary cost of 7.3 billion rubles (approximately $81 million at current rates), was completed in December 2024. Testing of the upgraded equipment is now underway.
The second phase plans to reconstruct 61 structures. The estimated cost of these works is 20.2 billion rubles (approximately $224 million at current rates), but the final amount will be announced after state review. The second phase is expected to begin in 2026 and be completed by 2030.
