Pediatric ophthalmologist of the highest category Svetlana Potapova died at the Cholbon pool in Yakutsk. This was reported on February 5 by the Telegram channel of the Yakutsk Republican Ophthalmological Clinical Hospital.
The tragedy occurred on the evening of February 4, when Potapova came for an evening session at the swimming pool. At around 7:30 p.m., she felt unwell; pool staff tried to help her and called an ambulance. Despite resuscitation efforts by the arriving doctors, the woman died. The cause of death will be determined by a forensic expert; the Investigative Committee of Yakutia has launched an inquiry.
Svetlana Potapova worked in healthcare for 39 years, 13 of which she devoted to the ophthalmological hospital. She received her higher medical education at Yakutsk State University. After an internship, she worked at Polyclinic No. 2 of Yakutsk and the Yakutsk Republican Trauma Dispensary. After completing her residency, Potapova served for 9 years as head of the ophthalmology department at Republican Hospital No. 1 — National Center of Medicine. Since 2016, she worked as a pediatric ophthalmologist.
