Derailment forces Voronezh-Moscow train passengers onto buses

Passengers on trains from Voronezh to Moscow and back have been transferred to buses after a gasoline tanker car derailment near Tambov. The number of delayed trains has doubled to 16.

Passenger train service at Kochetovka station in the Tambov Region remains disrupted as of publication. As a reminder, on the evening of February 4, tank cars of a freight train derailed and caught fire, carrying gasoline.

At 22:16, the South Eastern Railway (YuVZhD) reported that delayed passenger trains were gradually being routed through the station«s freight yard on a temporary schedule. At 22:24, it became known that passengers of trains No. 738 Moscow – Voronezh and No. 739 Voronezh – Moscow would be transported by road between Michurinsk-Uralsky and Khabotovo stations. After that, they will continue their journey on the main route by train.

At the same time, the number of trains running behind schedule doubled — from eight to 16. Here is the full list as of publication:

How long the trains are delayed has not been reported. As the South Eastern Railway (YuVZhD) noted, railroad workers are taking measures to reduce the delays. About 200 people, two recovery trains and four fire trains, as well as other special equipment, are involved in the cleanup efforts. The company said that an environmental monitoring post has been set up at the site and necessary measures have been taken to prevent the spread of pollutants. An operational headquarters has been established to coordinate the work, led by the head of Russian Railways (RZD) Oleg Belozyorov.
