The incident occurred on Orekhovy Boulevard. The driver left the car running on the mall parking lot and stepped away on business. A 29-year-old man passing by noticed the unattended vehicle. He got into the empty car and drove off.
The perfect crime fell apart on the road: the man accelerated, lost control, and crashed. He abandoned the car at the scene and fled. Police tracked down the thief. A criminal case for theft has been opened. The damage amounted to 3 million rubles ($33,000 at current rates).
