Police are investigating the circumstances of an accident that occurred on January 29 in Voronezh on Patriots Avenue. According to preliminary data, around 08:20 near house No. 2 — which is near Emergency Hospital No. 1 — a Lada Granta, driving from Heroes of Siberia Street towards Molodogvardeytsev Street, hit two 20-year-old women. At that moment, they were walking on an unregulated pedestrian crossing from right to left in the direction of traffic. One of the women was taken to the hospital from the scene of the accident, while the second sought medical help later on her own.
An «unregulated pedestrian crossing» means there is no traffic light at that section, but there is a zebra crossing and a corresponding sign. Motorists must yield to pedestrians, even if they have barely stepped onto the marking. Behind the wheel of the Lada was a 34-year-old resident of Semiluki. Depending on the severity of the injuries sustained by the women, he could face punishment up to the revocation of his driver«s license for two years — under Article 12.24 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation on causing harm to health in a traffic accident. And for not yielding to pedestrians at the crosswalk, he could face a fine from 1,500 to 2,500 rubles (approximately $17 to $28 at current rates).
According to data from the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Voronezh Region, over the past 24 hours, a total of seven people were injured in six road accidents in the region.
