In Ufa, two local residents will stand trial accused of acting as intermediaries in a bribery case at Rostransnadzor. As previously reported, the deputy head of the agency, Timur Mukhametianov, was arrested and left his post amid the investigation.
According to investigators, two businessmen representing a construction firm paid a bribe of 450,000 rubles (approximately $5,300 at current exchange rates) to Rostransnadzor to avoid punishment for violating rules on heavy and oversized transport.
“The transfer of money was carried out in several stages in April and May last year. The crime was uncovered by operatives of the FSB Directorate for the Republic of Bashkortostan,” the press service of the Investigative Committee of Bashkortostan said.
The agency also reported that the investigation is complete and the case has been sent to court. According to UFA1.RU, the case involves the company Tekhstroy from Chelyabinsk, which the defendants allegedly represented. The company has been operating for over 10 years and has received several warnings and cautions regarding transport regulations.
In particular, in 2021, Tekhstroy was cited for transporting cargo without a waybill, and in 2022 for operating a vehicle without a preliminary technical inspection. In 2023, the company was inspected by the Chelyabinsk Ministry of Industry, which found that the firm had failed to timely report on its stock of minerals in the deposits where it operates.
Meanwhile, the annual revenue of the Chelyabinsk-based company amounts to tens of millions of rubles. According to Kontur.Fokus, in 2024 the firm reported revenue of 86.3 million rubles (approximately $1,015,300 at current exchange rates) and net profit of 4.8 million rubles (approximately $56,500 at current exchange rates). Additionally, its owner and director has registered several other similar companies at the same address.
To ensure the enforcement of a potential sentence, the defendants’ property has been seized totaling over 15 million rubles (approximately $176,500 at current exchange rates). The criminal case with an approved indictment has been sent to court for consideration on its merits. The criminal case against the bribe-giver and bribe-taker is still under investigation.
