Boy swept away by Primorye river, search enters second day
Rescuers are searching for a drowned child in the Kirovsky district of Primorye. According to preliminary information, he was swept away by the river current, the regional EMERCOM«s MAX messenger channel reported.
The disappearance was reported on the evening of 19 July. The boy was swimming in the Draguchina channel, a tributary of the Ussuri River, near the settlement of Gornye Klyuchi. He was at the river accompanied by his grandfather.
The searches conducted yesterday yielded no results. Currently, emergency agency personnel continue to survey the water area and the river«s shoreline. The situation is under control of the Main Directorate of the Russian EMERCOM for Primorsky Krai.
Two tragedies on the water occurred in Primorye over the weekend. In different districts of the region, two men died while swimming. The first incident happened on the afternoon of 17 July in the village of Khoral. A man born in 1988 drowned while swimming in an artificial reservoir. Eyewitnesses pulled his body from the water and handed it over to police officers.
The second accident occurred on the evening of the same day in the waters of Muravyinaya Bay in the Artyomovsky urban district, near a recreational facility. A man born in 1972 began to drown while swimming. A lifeguard from the recreational facility pulled him ashore and handed him over to medics, but they were unable to save the victim.
In total, according to the operational summary from rescuers, four people have already died on the water in Primorsky Krai since the beginning of July.
Against the backdrop of a series of tragedies, security measures have been strengthened in the region. Until the end of the summer season, additional rescue patrols will be on daily duty at the most popular recreation spots for residents and tourists. Currently, 13 members of a student rescue team, trained at the State Inspectorate for Small Vessels (GIMS) center, are working 12 hours a day on the beaches of Shamora and Livadia. They monitor the safety of vacationers, warn of danger, and provide assistance to people on the water.
On the previous day, 17 July, surfers prevented a mass tragedy at Cape Vyatlina on Russky Island. Due to a strong rip current, eight vacationers were swept out to sea; the athletes helped bring them back to shore.
According to surfing coach Sergey, the people were exhausted, but thanks to the coordinated efforts of the amateur rescuers, no one was injured. Later, Vladivostok residents said that similar incidents had occurred this summer also at Shamora, Tobizina, and Akhleystysheva.
