In the city of Karabash, Chelyabinsk Oblast, on January 21, more than 30 apartment buildings were left without heating and hot water supply due to an accident on the heating main. According to the local administration, the problems began the day before, and an attempt to restore supply by midnight led to a new pipeline rupture.

The heating supply shutdown began the day before and has still not been fixed.

Residents reported the absence of hot water and heating since morning. Temporary accommodation points were organized for those affected at schools No. 2 and No. 4, and a state of heightened readiness was introduced in the city on the morning of January 21.

The Karabash administration explained: «Today, during the startup of the heating system, a pipeline rupture occurred. To eliminate the accident, measures were promptly taken to drain water from the system. Work is ongoing continuously, and it is planned to complete repair measures approximately by 17:00 today.»

In an appeal to residents, the administration noted: «We urgently ask to maintain calm and patience. We are doing everything possible for the swift restoration of heat supply. Currently, 31 apartment buildings in the city remain temporarily without heating. This situation is under special control of the city administration leadership. We ask you to show understanding and support each other in this difficult period.»

Acting city prosecutor Yevgeny Lazarev went to the accident site to monitor the progress of repair work, which is being carried out by LLC Perspektiva. Senior assistant prosecutor of Chelyabinsk Oblast Natalya Mamaeva reported that the situation has been taken under control by the department.

The accident occurred against the backdrop of a storm warning from the Ministry of Emergency Situations (EMERCOM). According to data from the Chelyabinsk Hydrometeorological Center, from January 21 to 25, abnormally cold weather is expected in most areas of the oblast, with average daily temperatures seven or more degrees below the climatic norm.
