Elderly hoarder turns apartment into trash heap, sleeps in hallway
In Yekaterinburg, residents of a building on Otto Schmidt Street are raising the alarm about a pensioner who has been sleeping and eating in the stairwell for three days. The elderly woman has cluttered her apartment so much that she can no longer get inside.
«No one knows anything about any relatives. The stench is terrible and cockroaches have been running all over the building. She can»t get into her home because it«s full of trash,» a neighbor of the woman told E1.RU.
According to residents, the pensioner has been bringing trash home for a long time. In 2019, junk was even removed using trucks.
«Yesterday was terrible: trash spilled out of her apartment and she couldn»t get in. In the end, a neighbor from a lower floor helped her get inside. He pushed the door and more trash spilled out. The old woman has some relative who takes care of her, but she doesn«t clean up: she takes her to hospitals and to the store. She insults children, called my son a snot-nose. There are a lot of dead cockroaches in the stairwell,» added another resident.
The management company «UZHS-Service» explained that they have long been aware of the situation with the pensioner, but they cannot fully influence her. Representatives of the management company recommend that the woman«s neighbors collectively appeal to the prosecutor»s office.
«She has been living like this for a long time, she periodically receives directives, including from the prosecutor»s office. She takes all the things out, then apparently brings them back or brings new ones in. How can we evict an old woman? That should be handled by the prosecutor and the police. We can issue directives that she is cluttering up common areas. At the same time, it is very difficult to prove that the cockroaches are running specifically from her apartment,« explained the management company.
We also reported how in Yekaterinburg residents were without gas for more than a week. A pensioner did not want to let gas workers into her apartment, which was completely piled with junk.
