Volgograd pensioner with cancer denied treatment due to funding shortfall

In Volgograd, the daughter of a pensioner with cancer cannot secure treatment for her mother. According to Marina, at the clinic where her mother was referred from the oncology center, there is no money for tests, the CT scanner is broken, and for unknown reasons, they cannot redirect the patient to another medical institution.
As told by Marina, the daughter of the 73-year-old cancer patient, the tests are urgently needed to determine the type of cancer, and if this is not done, further treatment at the oncology center cannot be prescribed.
«Initially, gynecological cancer was diagnosed in the summer of 2025. At that time, the clinic also did not give a referral to the oncology center, wanting to clarify the diagnosis first. But the treatment went well. And now, after another X-ray, unfortunately, metastases were found in the lungs. We quickly sent mom to her oncologist at the oncology center. There, they gave a referral to the clinic. There, she was also sent to an oncologist—a silly procedure from one doctor to another! And then the oncologist told her that the money for tests at the clinic had run out. And in general, the money has run out—meanwhile, the administration is spending millions on decorating the city!»
The problem is not only the delay in taking tests—the pensioner also needs a computed tomography scan.
«The queue for CT is until March, and even then the machine is broken! Cancer does not tolerate delays, time is working against the patient, we cannot wait here. All this running from oncology to the clinic and back—it»s terrible! They don«t want to redirect us to another clinic and don»t explain why—they never explain!«
The editorial office of V1.RU inquired with the healthcare committee of Volgograd Oblast whether it is true that Clinic No. 4 lacks sufficient funding for tests for cancer patients, if the CT scanner is broken, and why patients are not being redirected to other medical institutions. Later, the department commented on the situation:
«According to the medical organization, the institution»s funding is provided in full. Previously, this type of research was regularly performed. Now, a standard procedure for renegotiating the contract for tests is underway, which does not require much time. As for the CT scanner, it is temporarily shut down for repairs, and patients are given referrals to another medical institution. The patient is advised to contact the clinic«s administration to resolve the situation. If difficulties or misunderstandings arise, the administration is ready to provide assistance and offer solutions to the problem.»
