Tyumen man lost 60 kilograms after weighing over 130 at 17

Arkady Mamjyan is now 25 years old. At 17, he weighed 134 kilograms (295 lbs) and looked older than his years. Excess weight had been with him since childhood and for a long time seemed inevitable – as constant as the difficulty of finding clothes or the taunts of classmates. The turning point came suddenly: on the first day of summer after tenth grade, Arkady decided he didn«t want to live like that anymore. “Mom, I want to lose weight”

According to Arkady, his weight problems literally started at birth. He was a large child, and the situation only worsened over the years. He now describes his lifestyle without excuses: fast food, soda, chips, and an almost complete absence of sports. All of that, he says, «influenced my weight very strongly.»
By the end of tenth grade, the scale needle reached its maximum – 134 kg. Yet Arkady himself did not feel much physical discomfort for a long time and had grown accustomed to his condition. The real difficulties began in everyday life. He recalls not being able to buy regular clothes for his age, constantly catching people«s stares, and facing mockery and insults. This gradually created a feeling that he was different from others. And not in a good way.
“I lived with a lot of weight for a long time and was psychologically and physically used to this state – I didn«t feel any special discomfort. But at certain moments, the realization still came that I was different from others: I couldn»t buy clothes in a normal size – neither pants nor a T-shirt. People looked at me, there were constant insults and name-calling. Of course, it took a toll,” says the Tyumen man.
His parents had worried about their son«s health since childhood. Arkady remembers frequent trips to doctors, tests, and conversations about the consequences of excess weight. His mom and dad tried to control his diet and support him, but he made the truly conscious decision himself – and even unexpectedly for himself. It happened right after finishing tenth grade.
“I remember this moment well: it was after the end of tenth grade, on the first day of summer – June 1. I went up to my mom and said: ‘Mom, I want to lose weight.’ You know, it was like something clicked in my head. I understood I had to change myself, and I went to work out,” recalls Arkady.
Workouts and Nutrition
The young man built his path step by step from the start. First – maximum focus on weight loss and reducing body measurements. He signed up at a gym and completely overhauled his diet. The second stage was working on his body: building muscle mass and definition so that weight loss wouldn«t result in flabbiness and loose skin.
Nutrition became the key element of his transformation. Arkady removed all baked goods and sweets from his diet, gave up his usual on-the-go snacks, and switched to eating by the clock. He had four main meals a day and several small snacks: fruit, nuts, or cottage cheese. He followed this regimen strictly and without exceptions.
Arkady trained at the gym by himself: the schoolboy didn«t have money for a trainer. So, he studied exercises and workout programs online, adapting them for himself. Over time, he came to understand that effectiveness isn»t about heavy weight.
“When I just started working out, I still didn«t understand that a heavier weight doesn»t always give a greater result. One guy at the gym who had been training for a long time told me: ‘Better take a lighter weight, but do the exercise with proper technique and more repetitions – it will be much more useful.’ That«s how I started: I trained with light weights, and then gradually increased the working weight on all exercises,” the young man says.
Arkady built his workouts according to a simple, understandable plan. He exercised three times a week. At the beginning of each session, he spent about ten minutes on cardio on the treadmill. Then came the main part of the workout with strength exercises. He finished the session with cardio again – another roughly ten minutes.
Additionally, during the first stage, functional nutrition helped him. Arkady replaced one or two meals with it, getting all the necessary nutrients but avoiding overeating. According to him, this is what allowed him to lose weight gradually and without serious skin problems. Of supplements, he used only protein – without fanaticism.
Minus 60 kilos in one summer
The result was rapid. In three summer months – June, July, and August – Arkady lost about 60 kilograms (132 lbs). By the start of eleventh grade, he looked completely different, and the reaction of his classmates, as he admits, was appropriate.
“Everyone was shocked, of course. No one could have thought I would lose weight. And everyone asked how. And my friends didn«t even recognize me at first,” the young man recalls.
After the sharp weight loss, the Tyumen man focused on his body«s quality. Arkady began working on muscle mass and definition, while maintaining his previous daily routine. He got up early, went to bed at ten in the evening, and continued to eat fractionally and on schedule. Only the workout program changed – his diet and routine remained unchanged.
Today, Arkady no longer goes to the gym but tries to maintain his shape through nutrition. He is sure that diet became the main tool in his weight loss story. Workouts are important, but without proper nutrition, he says, they don«t give the desired result. To those who are just thinking about losing weight, Arkady advises not to listen to skeptics and not to expect a quick miracle.
“Guys, don«t give up, and you will definitely succeed,” the Tyumen man is convinced. “Don»t listen to people who try to stop you and say you won«t succeed. You decided to change your life, so keep acting. If you don»t give up and tell yourself: ‘I will succeed,’ you will be very happy with the result later.”
