At Ryazan Clinical Hospital No. 11, an operation was performed to remove a «coral-shaped» kidney stone using the method of endoscopic combined intrarenal surgery*. With this form of stone, traditional treatment methods are often traumatic.

The operation was performed by two surgical teams simultaneously. The stone was fragmented using two laser devices at the same time, allowing for its complete removal and minimizing damage to healthy kidney tissue, according to the regional health ministry.

«Performing such an operation requires not only unique equipment but also the highest qualification of the entire surgical team, which must be skilled in both percutaneous and retrograde endoscopic surgery,» added the department.

Currently, the patient has been discharged from the hospital in satisfactory condition and continues outpatient monitoring at her place of residence.

*Endoscopic combined intrarenal surgery is a method for treating large or coral-shaped kidney stones, which uses two approaches simultaneously—through the urethra and a small incision in the lumbar area. The stones are fragmented using a laser, and small fragments are removed with special instruments.

This treatment method is used when stones have a coral-shaped or other complex form, are three centimeters or more in diameter, or are located in the lower part of the organ. Indications for the surgery also include stones in a transplanted kidney and urolithiasis in a solitary kidney.
