Paralyzed Hockey Player Dreams of KHL Return

Ural hockey player Maxim Tarasov, who was paralyzed after an injury at training, dreams of returning to sports. At the end of 2020, the athlete from Chelyabinsk suffered fractures of the fifth and sixth vertebrae and ended up in a wheelchair.

He was then sent for rehabilitation to Yekaterinburg to Dr. Volkova«s clinic, with expenses covered by St. Catherine»s Foundation.

We previously told Maxim Tarasov«s story. Three years later, the Ural resident trained as a programmer and now dreams of becoming an employee of a KHL team.

«Max was always a hockey player, now he has socialized and adapted. He studied to be a chemist, but after the injury it became problematic to work with reagents. The rector offered him to choose any specialty and transfer without exams. He is now finishing his master«s degree and is on track for a red diploma,» — said Maxim»s father, Mikhail Tarasov.

Maxim did his internship at the Traktor hockey club, working on an information transformation project for the club «Polytechnic», for which he used to play.

Now the former athlete works at the university and creates Telegram bots for teachers on inclusive education. With this project, he took first place at the All-Russian competition «Professional Tomorrow».

«It«s understandable that when people face something like this, all sorts of thoughts may come, but I have gotten through it and come to terms with it. Now I understand that nothing has changed — life, work, studies. Maybe I speak as an athlete, but there are no particular difficulties now,» — says Maxim himself.

Thoughts of hockey do not leave Maxim; he dreams of helping the professional team Traktor, which plays in the KHL.
