Doctors in Orenburg removed a giant ovarian tumor from a 16-year-old girl who came to the Orenburg District Hospital with complaints of a sudden enlargement of her abdomen.

The huge mass occupied the entire small pelvis and abdominal cavity, so the patient was referred to the Orenburg Regional Children«s Clinical Hospital (ODKB).

«We performed a laparoscopic intervention and completely removed a giant teratoma of the right ovary with a volume of nearly 7 liters. Importantly, we managed to preserve the reproductive gland itself. Histological examination confirmed it was a benign mature teratoma,» noted obstetrician-gynecologist Anisa Garais of the ODKB.

The operation itself and recovery were successful — the patient has already been discharged home in good condition.

Doctors remind that ovarian tumors in adolescents may not show clinical symptoms for a long time, and the abdomen increases gradually — which can easily be attributed to age or body shape, so it is important to come for preventive checkups on time. One similar case was already reported by 56.RU — a 14-year-old girl needed surgery.
