Inspections launch in Bashkortostan maternity hospitals after Novokuznetsk deaths

Inspections are underway at perinatal institutions in Bashkortostan. This was announced by the republic«s Minister of Health, Airat Rakhmatullin. According to the official, specialists are examining compliance with all regulations together with epidemiologists. The inspection will take two weeks.
«Expert groups consisting of leading specialists from perinatal centers and teams of epidemiologists will check compliance with updated medical care procedures and clinical recommendations, the provision of medical care in critical conditions, compliance with sanitary-epidemiological regulations, staffing levels, and the professional competencies of medical staff,» explained Airat Rakhmatullin.
Recall that in January, the entire country was shaken by a series of deaths at a maternity hospital in the city of Novokuznetsk, Kemerovo Oblast. Nine babies died there; one theory is that the institution allowed an infection to spread. Law enforcement is conducting an investigation, and two medical workers have already been placed under restrictive measures for the duration of the inquiry.
