After the deaths of nine infants at the Novokuznetsk perinatal center, who died in early January due to an intrauterine infection, inspections were arranged at Don region maternity hospitals. This was reported to 161.RU by the Ministry of Health of the Rostov region.

«The Ministry of Health of the Rostov region is conducting departmental control measures in maternity hospitals of subordinate medical organizations, and managers have been instructed to conduct internal checks on the quality and safety of medical activities,» 161.RU was told by the regional health ministry.

Based on the results of the inspections, decisions will be made on «further control measures.»

All nine newborns in Novokuznetsk died during the New Year holidays — over several days. A quarantine was imposed at the perinatal center. According to the official version, the cause is an intrauterine infection. Due to the same infection, eight infants remain in serious condition. But experts have doubts about this version.

Later, on January 22, another newborn died in the maternity hospital. According to his mother, this happened due to a bacterial outbreak and unsanitary conditions in the institution. Governor of Kemerovo Region Ilya Seredyuk said that the mothers of the deceased infants did not receive medical supervision during pregnancy, and some of them even arrived at the maternity hospital drunk by ambulance. However, he later apologized for his words.

Earlier, 161.RU collected feedback from Don region women on local maternity hospitals. Some reported that conditions in the hospitals were dangerous to health and even life.
