Doctors in Volgograd managed to prevent amputation and save the decomposing finger of a 65-year-old pensioner. The patient himself, Vladimir Afanasyevich, confirmed that doctors at the regional clinical hospital No. 3 helped avoid serious complications.
The man was diagnosed with diabetes mellitus. After prolonged visits to various medical institutions, he finally turned to the so-called «obkomovskaya» hospital. According to the patient«s wife, his hospitalization and operation were possible thanks to the determination of one of the surgeons.
«The surgeon looked at the finger and was horrified. He said we need to hospitalize him,» the woman said. «Then the actions were very quick. They took tests, conducted an examination, and performed the operation immediately. I am grateful to the surgeon who took responsibility. Despite being refused and forbidden, he saw the situation and understood… This is also a brave act.»
After several operations and examinations, Vladimir Afanasyevich was discharged home. His son stated that «the epic has ended.»
«I am very grateful to the doctors. They fought for me until the last. I saw and heard nothing from them but kindness, help, and concrete actions. From the bottom of my heart — a heartfelt thank you to the entire surgical department, doctors, nurses. The first surgeon who operated on me, I am very grateful to him. Then I was treated by the head himself, Ivanchenko Sergei Vladimirovich. A tactful, attentive man and a professional in his field,» confessed Vladimir Afanasyevich. «They held consultations several times, deciding what to do with me. I am not a doctor, not a professional in this matter, but I understand the work they had to do.»
