Weight control always involves dietary restrictions. The first thing people try to give up when losing weight is sweets. However, glucose must be present in the diet as it is necessary for brain function. But which sweets exactly won«t harm your figure?

«The brain needs glucose, but it is also produced from complex carbohydrates, fruits, vegetables, and proteins,» Anna Brazhnikova, a dietitian at the Federal Clinical Research Center of the Federal Medical-Biological Agency (FКНЦ ФМБА), told our colleagues from «Doctor Peter».

So, it is entirely possible to completely give up added sugar and sweets if that«s easier for you. Sweets are not a mandatory source of glucose, but for many, they are important foods in the diet as they can bring pleasure.

«If you want to lose weight but don»t want to give up sweets, you shouldn«t completely exclude desserts from your diet, but their amount should be measured,» says dietitian Anna Brazhnikova from the Federal Clinical Research Center of the Federal Medical-Biological Agency (FКНЦ ФМБА). «It»s better to consume sweets in the first half of the day. For people losing weight, sweets containing no more than 150 kcal per 100 grams are suitable.«

What You Can Eat: Sweets Allowed on a Diet

Dark chocolate is one of the most popular treats even on a strict diet. It contains magnesium, iron, zinc, and flavonoids, which can support cognitive functions and act as antioxidants. It is recommended to eat 10–15 grams (1–2 squares).

  • Harmless sweets for those losing weight — marmalade and jelly. It«s better to choose products based on natural fruit juice without flavorings and thickeners. Marmalade contains vitamins C, A, E, and B group. Fruit-based products are rich in trace elements such as potassium, magnesium, iron, selenium, phosphorus.

  • Another allowed dessert during a diet — marshmallow. Its advantage is the absence of fats: it contains fruit puree, a small amount of sugar, and proteins. It«s important to note that marshmallow can be calorie-dense — it»s crucial to check the composition.

  • Pastila based on apple puree without sugar is a find for people watching their weight. Its calorie content varies within 50–60 kcal, which allows for diversifying dietary nutrition.

  • Instead of classic ice cream, you can treat yourself to sorbet. The average calorie content of a dessert made from frozen berries and fruits is 70 kcal.

  • Also, periodically, you can allow yourself dried fruits or a teaspoon of honey if there are no allergic reactions to it.

Complete abandonment of sweets negatively affects a person«s emotional state. This is because they stimulate the production of serotonin, explains the dietitian. So, if you can»t imagine life without sweets, just choose desserts wisely.

Previously, an expert told how many kilograms you can lose if you walk with a dog every day. Systematic activities with the pet, training, and active games twice a day prevent the accumulation of visceral fat — this type of fat deposition surrounds internal organs. Over a year of daily walks, you can gradually lose up to 6–8 kilograms without exhausting diets, provided you have balanced nutrition.
