The inspection at City Clinical Hospital No. 6 in Chelyabinsk was initiated by the prosecutor«s office following numerous patient complaints. Grievances about unsanitary conditions, including cockroach infestations and the poor state of the premises, had been coming in for several years.

A joint commission with specialists from Rospotrebnadzor (the Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing) examined the hospital«s neurology department and kitchen facilities. In the kitchen area, inspectors noted the need for repairs: plaster was peeling in places, with pockmarks on the walls and ceiling that hinder proper cleaning and disinfection. Neurology patients confirmed the presence of cockroaches in their wards and pointed out cleaning deficiencies.

For violations of sanitary-epidemiological legislation, the head of the epidemiology department and the head of the catering department were held administratively liable. The chief physician was served with a formal notice to eliminate the violations, following which four more hospital employees were disciplined.

Problems with the conditions at City Clinical Hospital No. 6 had been noted before. Back in 2023, patients had reported unsatisfactory conditions in the main building. The hospital administration had explained at the time that repair work was being carried out in stages, but work had not yet reached that particular building.
