90-Year-Old Veteran Saved in Yekaterinburg

Doctors in Yekaterinburg managed to treat a 90-year-old veteran. He consulted a pulmonologist with symptoms of severe shortness of breath, coughing up blood, high fever, and general weakness, after which he was urgently admitted to the intensive care unit of the New Hospital.
Examination revealed that the elderly man had an abscessing form of pneumonia, characterized by the formation of purulent cavities in the lungs, as well as fluid in the pleural cavity. In addition, multiple organ failure syndrome was diagnosed, affecting the liver, kidneys, respiratory and central nervous systems.
“To save the life of the Sverdlovsk resident, doctors immediately started combination antibiotic therapy, correction of vital body functions, and non-invasive lung ventilation,” the Ministry of Health explained.
The patient spent ten days in the intensive care unit, then was transferred to the pulmonology department for further treatment and rehabilitation. The veteran celebrated his 90th birthday in the hospital and was soon discharged home.
