Volgograd psychiatric hospital chief replaced after fatal incident
The regional health committee announced the appointment of a new head at the psychiatric hospital where a fatal attack on an orderly occurred in late December.

On January 20, the regional health committee of Volgograd Oblast appointed a new chief doctor at the regional psychiatric hospital No. 1, located in the Kalachevsky District. This decision was made after a tragic incident on December 27, when an orderly was killed by a patient.
According to the department«s report, Igor Kondratyev became the chief doctor of the institution. He graduated from the Volgograd State Medical University in 2004 and completed an internship in psychiatry in 2005.
Kondratyev holds current specialist certificates in psychiatry-narcology, psychiatry, as well as healthcare organization and public health. He underwent professional retraining in these fields in 2019 and 2020.
His career in psychiatry began in 2005 at the Kamyshin Psychiatric Hospital. From 2006 to 2013, he worked as a psychiatrist at Volgograd Regional Psychiatric Hospital No. 7 in Kamyshin, where from 2013 to 2015 he headed the male psychiatric department.
From 2016 to 2018, Igor Kondratyev managed the inpatient psychiatric department at Hospital No. 6 in Volzhsky. Immediately before the new appointment, he held the position of head of a branch of Clinical Psychiatric Hospital No. 2 in Kamyshin.
The incident that led to the change in hospital leadership occurred early in the morning on December 27. A convicted patient stabbed an orderly to death, took his keys, and fled. A second patient took advantage of the situation and also escaped. Both were detained the same day. A criminal case for murder has been initiated against the attacker. After the incident, the former chief doctor, Olga Zhigunova, left her position.
