On the night of Tuesday, July 21, residents of Volgograd and the region received SMS notifications about a missile danger. Authorities urged calm and immediate movement to shelters.

The message read: «Missile danger in Volgograd Oblast. Take documents, go to shelter. Avoid open areas. Phone — 112.»

Some residents reported hearing sirens and a voice from loudspeakers on warning vehicles urging calm and directing them to shelters.

The missile danger signal warns of possible missile fall near the region«s borders. All services are placed on high alert. This notification does not indicate a direct attack on a populated area and does not disrupt normal life. In case of a direct aerial threat, the civil defense signal »Aerial Alert!« is sounded.

When a missile danger is declared, the Russian Unified State System for Prevention and Response to Emergencies (RSChS) recommends:

  • shut off gas, water, and electricity and proceed to the nearest shelter (basement, cellar, underground parking, metro, etc.);
  • take documents, drinking water, warm clothing, and necessary medications;
  • avoid open areas;
  • do not approach windows;
  • do not use the elevator;
  • stay in the shelter until the signal is canceled.
