Volgograd Freezes Without Heating in Epiphany Frosts

Volgograd is experiencing a period of Epiphany frosts, but many residents are left without heating in their apartments. At night, the thermometer drops below -20°C (-4°F), and during the day it does not rise above -15°C (5°F), yet heating systems in buildings are not working.

Cold radiators and lack of hot water are forcing residents to resort to space heaters and seek warmth at their workplaces.

In the Traktorozavodsky district on Gorokhovtsev Street, heating has been absent for two weeks. «The radiators are barely warm, cold water comes from the hot tap, and you have to run the water for a long time to get it warm,» says a local resident.

A utility accident occurred in the same area. «Since 3 a.m., there has been no water or heating on Zholudeva Street, buildings 19a, 15a, 11a,» complain residents of the northern part of Volgograd.

One Volgograd woman said she is forced to warm up at the office: «We are forced to warm up at work with three heaters, I can imagine what electricity bills will come to the office. There is no other choice, at home, on Myasnikova Street, it»s freezing cold. I«m even afraid to go home. I sent my child to my grandmother»s, so she can at least warm up there. At the school in the same area, on Spartanovka, they even canceled classes due to the cold: there is no heating either.«

Problems have affected other addresses as well. «There is no heating on Naberezhnaya Volzhskoy Voyennoy Flotilii Street, 33. We don»t know what happened, the pipes are cold,« noted residents.

In the Spartanovka district, the heating shutdown is linked to damage to a gas pipeline due to a vehicle hitting the pipe, which stopped the boiler house. In other cases, the reasons remain unclear.

In the Dzerzhinsky district on Angarskaya Street, 114, according to a resident, an elderly woman is freezing. «On Angarskaya, 114, an 87-year-old grandmother is freezing. There is no heat, so is she supposed to freeze to death?» he exclaims.

In the Kirovsky district, in the settlement of Voenny Gorodok, building 3, there is also no heating. «We have no idea what the reason is,» laments a local resident.

The company «Concessions of Heat Supply» responded to the complaints. According to them, on Gorokhovtsev Street, 2, and Naberezhnaya Volzhskoy Flotilii, 33, heating supply has been fully restored, and no problems with hot water have been recorded.

«On Angarskaya Street, 114 and Voenny Gorodok, 3, from the side of Concessions of Heat Supply, the supply was not interrupted and no work was carried out,» the organization clarified. «The heating supply to buildings 19a, 15a, 11a on Zholudeva Street was not interrupted.»

Earlier, a similar situation occurred at School No. 19, where, due to the cold in the classrooms, parents were asked to purchase heaters. Utility workers explained this as a malfunction of internal networks, while the school principal blamed «Concessions» for the problem.
