Veliky Ustyug Man Convicted for Striking Police

On the evening of February 27, 2026, a 50-year-old man was brought to the duty station of the Veliky Ustyug police department. He had been detained near a store on Uglovskogo Street in Veliky Ustyug (Vologda Region, Russia). Due to signs of severe intoxication, officers drew up a report under Article 20.21 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation (appearing in a public place while intoxicated).

During paperwork, the man behaved aggressively and expressed dissatisfaction. Law enforcement officers decided to place him in the administrative detention room. During a search for prohibited items, the detainee struck the squad commander in the face with his hand. As a result, the officer experienced physical pain and developed a hemorrhage on the mucous membrane of the upper lip, which did not cause harm to health.

The man«s actions were classified under Part 1 of Article 318 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation — the use of violence not dangerous to life or health against a government official in connection with the performance of official duties. In court, the defendant fully admitted guilt, and at his request the case was heard under a special procedure. The Velikoustyugsky District Court found him guilty. Considering mitigating circumstances (sincere remorse and steps taken to apologize to the victim) and the absence of aggravating circumstances, the court sentenced him to 2 years of suspended imprisonment with a 2-year probation period and the imposition of certain duties.
