Unable to walk: homeless pair stranded on street

The social protection department in Krasnoyarsk«s Oktyabrsky District is not taking responsibility for two homeless people who cannot walk. Lyudmila Samoilova, head of the shelter "Chelovek Cheloveku" (Human to Human), told NGS24.RU this.

Samoilova learned about them from volunteers at mobile food stations. The man "lies" on Totmina Street, and the woman is on Korneeva Street. Both cannot walk: the man has "completely lost use of his legs," and the woman is so weak that she could not eat after food was bought for her. In both cases, volunteers have already tried to seek help: calling an ambulance, the police, and social protection. However, according to the shelter head, the situation does not change.

Samoilova’s shelter is ready to take in the homeless woman; there is one free spot there now. But for this, help from social protection is needed — first of all, to restore documents, accompany the woman through various agencies, and later place her in a nursing home, she explained. Currently, there are 30 people at "Chelovek Cheloveku," and there are not enough volunteers for all of them.

As Lyudmila Samoilova was told, social protection department officials visited Totmina and Korneeva streets but took no further action. She considers it dangerous to leave people with serious illnesses on the street.

"People are ill. They are immobile, and what if someone attacks them," the shelter head said. "It is generally dangerous to leave a sick person on the street who cannot even run away."

Samoilova has no precise information about what happened to these people or what specific diseases they suffer from.
