Udmurtia Court Upholds Teen Arrest for Murder

On July 21, 2026, the Supreme Court of the Udmurt Republic (a region in western Russia) held a closed hearing to consider an appeal filed by the lawyer of the 15-year-old accused. The teenager is charged under paragraphs «d» and «zh» of Part 2 of Article 105 of the Russian Criminal Code — murder committed by a group of persons in a preliminary conspiracy with extreme cruelty. The appellate court upheld the ruling of the Industrial District Court of Izhevsk dated June 26, 2026, which had ordered the minor’s pretrial detention for a period of 1 month and 22 days, until August 16, 2026. The hearing was closed due to the minority of the accused.

According to investigators, on the night of June 16–17, 2026, the accused, together with a previously acquainted 18-year-old young man, while intoxicated at a house on Orlovskaya Street in Izhevsk, brutally beat a 25-year-old victim on the grounds of personal hostility. The perpetrators inflicted multiple stab wounds to his arms and legs. The victim died shortly after from his injuries in a medical facility.

The accused’s lawyer, disagreeing with the district court ruling, appealed it, requesting that the arrest be overturned and that the minor be placed under house arrest at his place of residence. The Supreme Court of the republic, after reviewing the case materials, deemed the chosen measure lawful and justified, leaving the ruling unchanged and denying the appeal. The other defendant in the criminal case, an 18-year-old young man, is also in custody.
