Udmurt Delegation Attends Federal Sabantuy in Omsk

President Vladimir Putin declared 2026 the Year of Unity of the Peoples of Russia. Within this framework, the Federal Sabantuy was held in Omsk on July 17–18. The delegation of the Udmurt Republic was led by Eduard Petrov, Minister of National Policy. Participation in the festival helped strengthen interethnic ties and provided experience in organizing large-scale celebrations — this will aid in preparing for the Sabantuy in Izhevsk in 2028.

The visit program included the grand opening of hippodrome competitions, a parade of jockeys, and horse races. In the evening, delegates attended a concert by masters of arts from Tatarstan and Omsk Region. On July 18, a ceremony was held for the unveiling of a bust monument to Hero of the Soviet Union Musa Jalil. On the central square, a procession of participants and an award ceremony for public figures took place. Delegates learned about Tatar everyday life, sampled national dishes, visited a crafts fair, and attended master classes.

Special attention was paid to the sports program: there were demonstration performances and competitions in national belt wrestling «Koresh» for the prize of the Rais of the Republic of Tatarstan, which determined the main Batyr of Sabantuy. At a creative platform symbolizing the unity of the peoples of Russia, an exhibition-sale of decorative and applied arts from various regions was organized.

Interactive zones with folk games operated for families with children:

• sack races,
• pillow fights on a log,
• running with buckets on yokes,

as well as board games with an ethnic twist. In addition, thematic zones dedicated to the memory of the Great Patriotic War and the special military operation were set up, along with a venue for passing GTO standards.

«Sabantuy is not just a national holiday; it is a symbol of unbreakable friendship among all the peoples of our vast country. Watching how large-scale and heartfelt the festivities are in Omsk, we are already beginning preparations to welcome guests from all over Russia to Izhevsk in 2028 at the highest level,» emphasized Eduard Petrov.
