Tugboat officer tried for ramming convoy on Tsimlyansk

In the Kalachyovsky District Court, a trial is beginning for the chief officer of the tugboat «Geroi Zapolyarya», accused of violating safety rules for navigation and operation of inland water transport. According to the investigation, the man«s actions led to a collision of two vessel convoys in the waters of the Tsimlyansk Reservoir.

Recall that the incident occurred in autumn 2024 near the village of Pyatiizbyanka in Kalachyovsky District. There, the tanker «Dorida» collided with a convoy consisting of the tugboat «Geroi Zapolyarya», the tanker «Olivia», and the tugboat MB-1216.

It is known that the accused, while navigating the Tsimlyansk Reservoir, noticed a coupling of other vessels across his path, but took no measures to avoid a collision with the maneuvering convoy. «The total damage caused to the shipowners amounted to over 4 million rubles (approximately $44,400 at current rates)», — specified the Southern Transport Prosecutor«s Office.

It is known that the chief officer Alexander Cherkasov is the defendant. The first hearing, at which the case will be heard on its merits, is scheduled for July 23.
