Troitsk Resident Detained for Gathering Wild Hemp
In the course of the 'Poppy-2026' operation, drug control officers detained a 34-year-old resident of Troitsk (Chelyabinsk Oblast, Russia), from whom more than 285 grams of narcotic plants were seized.

As part of the preventive operation «Poppy-2026», officers of the drug control department of the Troitsk Interdistrict Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia detained a 34-year-old local resident of Troitsk (Chelyabinsk Oblast, Russia). The man attracted the attention of police on one of the city«s streets due to his nervous behavior and an attempt to get rid of a plastic bag.
During a search and inspection of the discarded bag, parts of dark green plants were found. An examination showed that the seized material is a narcotic substance — wild hemp. The weight of the seized material exceeded 285 grams (0.63 lb). The detainee, who already has a criminal record for a similar crime, said that he collected the plant for personal use.
The investigative department has opened a criminal case under Part 2 of Article 228 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. This article provides for liability for the illegal acquisition, storage, transportation of narcotic drugs or plants containing them.
The police of Chelyabinsk Oblast urge citizens to report facts of illegal drug trafficking and places where narcotic plants grow by calling 102.
