Temperature Swings: Nizhny Novgorod to See -29°C Cold Snap

A 30-degree cold snap will hit Nizhny Novgorod, replacing the relatively mild winter weather. The cooling will begin on Wednesday, January 21, and temperatures will continue to drop until the end of the week, according to the forecast on the website of the Federal State Budgetary Institution «Upper Volga Department for Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring» (FGBU Verkhne-Volzhskoye UGMS).
On Tuesday, January 20, thermometers show -4°C (25°F). Tomorrow during the day, the temperature will drop to -7°C (19°F), and by Thursday night in Nizhny Novgorod, it will cool to -15°C (5°F). By Friday, the frost will intensify: during the night, temperatures are expected to reach -26°C (-15°F), and during the day — up to -22°C (-8°F).
The coldest night of the week will be Saturday night — temperatures will drop to -29°C (-20°F) by then, while during the day, forecasters promise -20°C (-4°F). On Sunday, it will become slightly warmer: -25°C (-13°F) during the night and -17°C (1°F) during the day. Throughout the workweek, snow will fall periodically in the city, but precipitation will cease over the weekend.
Earlier, forecasters told what weather to expect for Nizhny Novgorod residents in February. According to a preliminary forecast, the average air temperature will be one degree higher than long-term averages. Moreover, precipitation levels are expected to be above normal.
