St. Petersburg Approves Fifth Metro Line Extension
On January 20, at a working meeting of the St. Petersburg government, the planning and land surveying project for a section of the Frunzensko-Primorskaya metro line was approved. The new segment will run from Shuvalovsky Prospekt station to Kolomyazhskaya with a depot and will have a length of over four kilometers.
The extension of the fifth line beyond Komendantsky Prospekt includes three new stations:
- Shuvalovsky Prospekt
- Magistral 31
- Kolomyazhskaya with a depot of the same name
The planning project for the previous section from Komendantsky Prospekt to Shuvalovsky Prospekt was approved in 2025.
The construction of the entire section of the purple line is being carried out as a single complex. Tunnel boring is being done from both sides: from Kolomyazhskaya station, the double-track shield «Nadezhda» is used, and from the dead-end beyond Komendantsky Prospekt – two single-track shields.
Initially, plans also included the Kamenska station, but later its construction was abandoned.
