Shadrinsk on High Alert as Iset River Rises
Rising waters in the Iset River have created dangerous currents near Shadrinsk.
Shadrinsk has introduced a high alert mode due to a sharp rise in water level in the Iset River. As of this morning, the river level stood at 161 cm (5 ft 3 in), having risen by 9 cm (3.5 in) in the past day. Prolonged rains and releases from the Volkovskoye Reservoir are influencing the situation, the press service of the Shadrinsk city administration reported.
Flooding of plots in the coastal zone begins at a level of 223 cm (7 ft 4 in) in the Iset River. A level of 340 cm (11 ft 2 in) is considered a dangerous phenomenon for the city.
“Door-to-door visits are currently being conducted, residents are being informed about the procedure for action in case the situation worsens,” said Irina Gizatova, acting head of the city.
Furthermore, the authorities have imposed a strict ban on swimming. Due to the rise in water level in the Iset, the current has strengthened, making any entry into the water dangerous.
Recall that due to rising water levels in the Iset River, an operational headquarters has been deployed in the city of Dalmatovo.
