Sea Liner to Connect St. Petersburg and Kaliningrad

Governor of Kaliningrad Oblast Alexei Besprozvannykh announced plans to organize a passenger sea route between St. Petersburg and Kaliningrad. The project will become possible after the completion of the passenger terminal in the town of Pionersky.
According to the head of the region, the vessel will accommodate between 1,500 and 2,500 people. Travel time is estimated at 24–30 hours. The liner will also have the capacity to transport passengers« personal vehicles.
Construction of the terminal in Pionersky has been ongoing since 2018. Its opening dates have been repeatedly postponed: initially, the facility was planned to open in 2023, but currently, commissioning is scheduled for 2026. The contract value exceeds 8 billion rubles (about $94,117,600).
Answering a question about the possibility of increasing the number of trains between the cities, the governor noted that this is impossible due to the position of the Lithuanian authorities. Trains travel through the territory of Lithuania, so currently only two trains per day run on the route.
