Rocket Danger Declared in Volgograd

In Volgograd and Volgograd Oblast, a rocket danger alert was urgently declared. Residents received SMS notifications on their phones in the middle of the night on Tuesday, July 21, asking them to remain calm and run to shelter.

«Rocket danger in Volgograd Oblast. Take your documents, proceed to shelter. Avoid open areas. Tel. – 112» — the message received by many residents said.

Some residents reported hearing alarming sirens and a voice from loudspeakers on warning vehicles urging them to remain calm and head to shelter.

What is rocket danger?

A rocket danger alert warns of the possibility of rockets falling near the region’s borders, and all services are placed on high alert. This signal is not the result of a direct attack on a populated area and does not affect its normal functioning. In the event of a direct threat of rocket or aviation danger related to enemy intentions to strike a populated area from the air, the civil defense signal «Air Raid!» is used to notify the population.

According to the RSChS, during a rocket danger alert, residents are advised to take the following actions:

1. Turn off gas, water, electricity and proceed to the nearest shelter. If none, go to the nearest underground space (basement, cellar, underground parking, metro, and the like).
2. Take documents, drinking water, warm clothes, and necessary medications.
3. Avoid open areas.
4. Do not approach windows.
5. Do not use the elevator.
6. Stay in shelter until the rocket danger is canceled.
