The State Traffic Safety Inspectorate of the Tambov Region has announced the results of the three-day preventive operation «Oncoming Lane.» The event was held on July 14, 15, and 16 and was aimed at preventing traffic accidents related to driving into oncoming traffic. During the operation, traffic police inspectors worked in an enhanced mode. Additional patrols were deployed on suburban highways, city streets, and municipal districts, as well as in locations where similar accidents had previously been recorded. A total of 346 police officers were involved: 290 from the State Traffic Safety Inspectorate and 57 from other services. During the campaign, 89 targeted events were organized, 45 of which were conducted in the form of «covert» patrols. As a result, 246 drivers who drove into oncoming traffic were brought to administrative responsibility. Of these, 160 violated the rules under Parts 4 and 5 of Article 12.15 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of the Russian Federation.
The department reminded that every risky overtaking is a responsibility not only for one«s own life but also for the lives of passengers and drivers of oncoming vehicles. GAI officers urged drivers not to rush into hasty maneuvers, to be 100% sure of the safety of overtaking, and to remember that a few saved minutes are not worth a possible tragedy.
