The third-largest city in Kuzbass — Prokopyevsk — will be allocated about 400 million rubles (approximately $4.4 million at current exchange rates) to cover social needs. This was announced by the governor of Kemerovo Oblast in his Telegram channel on Tuesday, 21 July.

As the head of the region indicated, the mayor of Prokopyevsk, Maxim Shkarabeynikov, approached him. The administration decided that the city would be allocated 400 million rubles to pay salaries to residents, cover utility payments for social institutions, continue supporting electric transport operations, and continue issuing social benefits.

It is not known exactly whether this helping hand will be used to pay off debts or whether it is intended to support these benefits in the future.

Prokopyevsk has long been known among residents of Kuzbass and, unfortunately, not in a positive light. Many recall the tragedy with teenagers who burned to death in a sauna, a stepfather who disfigured a schoolboy, and a brutal double murder of a family.
