Overgrown park in Malaya Frantsiya outrages Volgograd residents
The public space, grandly opened two years ago in Krasnooktyabrsky District, has fallen into neglect due to lack of maintenance, residents complain.

Residents of Volgograd are expressing dissatisfaction with the state of a park in the Malaya Frantsiya settlement of Krasnooktyabrsky District. The space was opened two years ago, but now, according to them, almost nothing remains of the landscaping — the area is becoming overgrown with weeds.

The sorry state of the park, located next to the Iskra swimming pool and the Krasny Oktyabr metallurgical plant, was pointed out by entrepreneur and political scientist Vyacheslav Kuzmin. «An excellent new park was opened a few years ago in Krasnooktyabrsky District next to Iskra and the tennis school. Only there is no one to provide elementary care for it, and everything has gradually begun to turn into typical Volgograd overgrowth,» writes Vyacheslav. «We do a lot of things, and we do them properly. But then it is unclear who is responsible for maintenance. Now, apparently, no one. Everything has begun to decline. The green area was originally done poorly. There is something resembling flowerbeds, but it»s unclear what is going on with them.«
The park«s benches and pathways are seen overrun with weeds.

The idea of renovating the old park was proposed by Governor Andrey Bocharov in 2022. It was planned that sports grounds, pedestrian paths with benches and trash cans, trees and shrubs, lighting, and an irrigation water system would appear here.

President of the Tennisiya club Alexander Startsev, in a conversation with a V1.RU correspondent, acknowledged that the problem with grass mowing does exist, and it is due to a shortage of gasoline. «The park belongs to the Administration of Krasnooktyabrsky District. We mow, plant flowers, and take care of the grounds. We mow everything using lawnmowers and trimmers that run on gasoline. Because of problems with gasoline, we could not remove the grass on time. We have now stocked up on gasoline. The person who mows for us will come out after July 24 and finish mowing everything. The garbage is taken away by the administration. We are in contact with them. Well, how could we do without them?»
The overgrown condition of the park highlights the lack of regular maintenance.

The Volgograd City Administration has not yet provided answers to questions about the condition of the park and the timeline for putting it in order.
Residents of Krasnooktyabrsky District have previously complained about Yuri Gagarin Park: the grass is not mowed, flowers are not watered, and small architectural forms are not repaired. The maintenance organization cites a lack of funding. Additionally, in the Nizhnie Barrikady settlement adjacent to Malaya Frantsiya, garbage has not been collected for a long time, leading to the formation of fire-hazardous dumps.
